 2022 Preview

Elmore County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Elmore County finished seventh in Class 5A region four with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Panthers lost as many games as in any season since 1962. The defense allowed a team record 419 points last season. The Panthers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year.

Elmore County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.6 points a game.

Elmore County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.9 points a game.

The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 47-75. Their 38.5% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 121-144. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 5A and 229th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Kyle Caldwell as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Caldwell was the offensive coordinator at Chelsea in 2021.

The Elmore County Panthers will play in Class 5A region four during the 2022 season.

The Panthers enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Panthers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Elmore County will be to simply win some games.

The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Marbury on Thursday, August 18 at Burt-Haynie Field. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 45-7.

Elmore County and Marbury have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 8-4-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2019 with Marbury winning by a score of 35-18.
